We are proud to be Kingston’s only not-for-profit dance school. In 1967, a community ballet association was formed to provide high-quality instruction to a small group of classical ballet students who were seeking excellence in technical training. In the past 50 years, the Kingston School of Dance has grown to be a vibrant, enthusiastic organization dedicated to enriching the community through dance. While we continue to provide the highest standard of classical ballet training, we offer a wide variety of dance genres for students, supporters, and pectators to experience. From western theatrical forms such as ballet, contemporary, jazz, and tap, to salsa, hip-hop, the acrobatic arts, and parent and child; we are proud to share our passion for dance to the community.

We strive to provide affordable and accessible programming to our dancers. We cultivate a nurturing environment where students can discover their unique and innate ability to dance. Dancers ranging from 3 to 90 years of age experience an exciting and current curriculum.

Alumni & Arts Careers

Whether a student is pursuing dance for recreation or as a professional career, KSD faculty provide sound technical training while encouraging creative exploration, rhythm and musicality. Many KSD alumni have gone on to enjoy dance careers through such venues as the National Ballet of Canada, Quinte Ballet School, Alberta Ballet, Ryerson University, York University, George Brown College, Toronto Dance Theatre, Netherlands Dance Theater, Dutch National Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens - as well as related Arts careers in Theater and Arts Administration in Canada and abroad.

Cecchetti Ballet

Students enrolled in our new Aspirant Dancer Program (ADP), follow the Cecchetti Ballet Syllabus and are offered the opportunity to participate in yearly ballet exams. We are the only dance school in the area to offer this recognized and prestigious syllabus.

Adult Programming

We currently offer a wide range of dance classes for adults including; ballet, jazz, contemporary, salsa and tap. We also offer adult lunch hour classes (please consult our schedule for more information).

The Kingston School of Dance is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. All of the money earned by tuition fees, fundraising, or donated to our organization are invested directly into the school and used in pursuing our mission: to enrich the lives of our students, members, and the community through the art of dance.
