This workshop is part of the Cultural Creativity Series at the Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning, which aims to foster cultural learning through artistic creation. Participants will explore various art forms from different cultures, learning about each culture's unique expressions, history, and context.

Join us for the third workshop, “Exploring the Art of Arabic Calligraphy,” where participants will delve into the rich history and artistic significance of this beautiful form of writing. Led by a graphic designer who is passionate about calligraphy, the workshop will begin with a brief presentation covering the origins and evolution of Arabic calligraphy, highlighting its cultural importance and various classical styles such as Kufic, Naskh, Thuluth, Diwani, and Ruq’ah. Attendees will receive photocopies of style sheets for reference.

Participants will learn about essential tools, including bamboo pens (Qalam) and suitable inks, followed by hands-on training in basic strokes and letter formation. With personalized guidance, each participant will have the opportunity to practice writing their name in Arabic, ensuring a meaningful experience.

This workshop is open to individuals of all skill levels and all the necessary materials will be provided. Visual aids, physical samples, and take-home resources will enhance the learning experience.

Participants will create a beautiful piece of Arabic calligraphy featuring their name on a wooden disc to hang at home and will also take home the bamboo pen (Qalam) they used during the workshop for future projects!
