About the Artists

Kelly Bennett has been a self employed artist since 1996. Her early days were spent in Victoria BC at the markets selling glass mosaics, fused glass and metal embossing. Upon moving to Ontario Kelly shifted her focus to enamel and silver jewellery. Enamel is powdered glass that is sifted onto hand-cut copper then torch fired. This allows the glass to melt onto the copper. Many layers are fused to each side until the desired effect is achieved. Her silver work is all hand-formed from precious metal clay. Silver particles are mixed with a binder to create a piece of clay. Once the clay is formed then dried, it is kiln fired at 1,650 degrees. This process burns off the binder leaving pure silver. It is then polished to the desired effect.

Allison Cope is an embroidery artist who paints with thread. She creates her own designs and uses thread, ribbon, repurposed scarves, fabric, and found items. All pieces are hand-stitched and mounted with new and reclaimed frames. Allison is self-taught and while she deeply respects the traditions of embroidery, she uses the medium more as would a painter. She makes visual representations of emotional states, the inherent absurdities of life, and depictions of her personal processes, for example, her three-part cancer series.

Kim Henderson has been a full-time working potter and glass artist for the past 25 years. Three years ago, Kim came home to Kingston to live and work. Her art is now even more multidisciplinary, incorporating beeswax and original photography into her encaustic pieces and playing with light and electricity with her neon signs. Kim is known for incorporating metal into her sculptural clay pieces as well as her encaustic work.
